Mushroom Cold Rooms Engineered for Every Stage of Cultivation
Mushrooms are the most unforgiving commodity to cold-store in India. Each cultivation stage — spawn storage, substrate pasteurization, incubation, cropping, and post-harvest — demands a different combination of temperature, humidity, CO₂, and airflow. Get any one of these wrong and you lose the crop.
Most "cold room" vendors in India quote you a generic walk-in chiller and call it a mushroom room. It's not. A mushroom room is an HVAC system disguised as cold storage. HyperCold is one of a handful of Indian manufacturers with the Daikin engineering depth to build all five stages correctly.
The Five Stages of a Mushroom Cold Room System
Spawn Storage (2°C – 4°C, 60–70% RH)
Long-term preservation of mother spawn and grain spawn. Requires low-temperature stability and protection from contamination.
Substrate Pasteurization (55°C – 62°C, — RH)
Heated to pasteurize compost, then crashed down. Not cold storage, but often built alongside.
Incubation / Spawn Run (22°C – 25°C, 90–95% RH)
Where mycelium colonizes the substrate. High humidity with minimal air exchange.
Cropping / Fruiting Room (14°C – 18°C, 85–90% RH)
The critical room. Temperature drop triggers pinning. Airflow and CO₂ control determine yield.
Post-Harvest Cold Storage (0°C – 2°C, 90% RH)
Fresh mushrooms stored before dispatch. Must prevent cap browning and water loss.
How HyperCold Engineers a Mushroom Cold Room Correctly
Load calculation in CFT, not sq ft
Respiration heat of mushroom mycelium is high during spawn run and low during fruiting — we model both.
Humidification sized to room volume
Ultrasonic foggers or steam humidifiers, not spray nozzles that wet the substrate.
Low-velocity, high-volume airflow
Duct design that moves air without drying caps. 4–6 air changes per hour during cropping.
CO₂ scrubbing integration
Fresh air intake dampers with CO₂ sensor feedback for precise atmospheric control.
Daikin ODU + IDU from official charts
No guesswork, no oversizing. Every unit selected for optimal operating point.
IoT logging with WhatsApp alerts
Temp, RH, CO₂ monitored 24/7 with instant alerts to the grower's phone.

Mushroom Cold Room Cost in India (2026 Indicative)
| Room Size | Stages Covered | Indicative Cost (₹) |
|---|---|---|
| 1,000 sq ft (single cropping room) | Cropping only | ₹8–12 lakh |
| 2,500 sq ft (incubation + cropping) | 2 stages | ₹18–28 lakh |
| 5,000 sq ft (full 4-stage system) | Spawn + incubation + cropping + storage | ₹45–75 lakh |
| 10,000+ sq ft (commercial farm) | Full turnkey with automation | ₹1.2–2.5 crore |
Indicative only. Final pricing depends on site conditions, PUF specification, refrigeration redundancy, automation level, and subsidy eligibility.
Subsidy Eligibility
Mushroom cold rooms qualify under NHB (up to 35% back-ended subsidy), MIDH (capital assistance for horticulture), and in some states PMKSY integrated cold chain. HyperCold prepares a compliant DPR with every major project.
Read Our Subsidy GuideFrequently Asked Questions
What temperature is best for storing fresh mushrooms?
0°C to 2°C at 90–95% RH for up to 7 days.
What's the difference between an incubation room and a cropping room?
Incubation: 22–25°C, high CO₂ (1,500+ ppm) encouraged. Cropping: 14–18°C, CO₂ below 1,000 ppm to trigger pinning.
How much does a mushroom cold room cost in India?
From ₹8 lakh for a single 1,000 sq ft cropping room up to ₹2.5 crore for a full commercial 10,000 sq ft facility.
Can I get a subsidy for a mushroom cold room?
Yes — NHB, MIDH, and some state horticulture boards cover 35% or more. We prepare the DPR.
Which refrigeration brand do you use?
Daikin, selected from official ODU/IDU charts for optimal efficiency.
What PUF thickness do you recommend?
100 mm for moderate climates, 150 mm for Rajasthan / peak UP summers.
Do you handle AMC after installation?
Yes — quarterly preventive maintenance + 24-hour emergency response pan-India.
How long does installation take?
4–10 weeks depending on room size and site readiness.
